KATHMANDU: India romped to 2-1 victory over Bangladesh and lifted the title of the SAFF U-18 Championship held in Kathmandu, on Sunday.
Ravi Bahadur Rana scored a winning goal into the deep stoppage time of the second half to send the spirited nine-men Bangladesh crest fallen in the tense final at Nepal’s APF ground today.
The game was marred by the flurry of cards as the referee produced three red-cards and five yellow cards.
Both the teams were reduced to 10-men after the referee produced straight red cards to India’s Guri Kirat and Faheem of Bangladesh in the 23rd minute.
India took the early lead in the three minutes through Bikram Pratap Singh before cancelled out by Yasheen in the 40th minute. However, after scoring an equaliser Yasheen was shown red card leaving his team to nine-men to contain Indian dominant play.
Likewise, Maldives secured a bronze medal after edging Bhutan by a narrow margin of 1-0 victory at the Halchok Stadium today.
Nepal was crowned champions in two earlier editions of the championship before exiting from the group stage on home turf this time around.
