KATHMANDU: Nepal No 1 table tennis player Nabita Shrestha won five matches in the final selection tournament for the 13th South Asian Games here at the Lainchaur covered hall on Thursday. Shrestha defeated Swechhya Nembang, Geeta Bhujel, Selisha Khadgi and Dikshya Tamang by identical 3-0 sets, while she registered a 3-2 victory over sister-in-law Elina Maharjan.
Raveena Maharjan recorded four wins — 3-0 against Geeta Bhujel and Elina Maharjan, 3-2 over Dikshya Tamang and Sikka Suwal. She faced a 3-1 loss against Swechhya Nembang.
Likewise, Sikka Suwal beat Sonu Thapa Magar and Geeta Bhujel by identical margins of 3-2 and defeated Swechhya Nembang 3-1. She lost 3-0 against Dikshya Tamanf and went down 3-2 at the hands of Raveena Maharjan. Dikshya Tamang won three and lost two matches, while Elina Maharjan and Swechhya Nembang recorded two wins and faced three defeats each.
In men’s section, Binesh Khaniya and Shiva Sundar Gothe registered two wins each. Khaniya defeated Mani Lama 3-1 before beating Purushottam Bajracharya 3-2. Likewise, Gothe beat Pradeep Rokka 3-2 and defeated Chandan Shahi 3-1.
A total of 19 players — nine men and 10 women — are taking part in the two-day tournament. Nepal No 1 Santoo Shrestha did not take part in the event after he met with an accident on Wednesday. The All Nepal Table Tennis Association will pick five each players in both sections for the SAG.
