Shrestha bags silver

KATHMANDU: National team karateka Manday Kaji Shrestha won silver medal in the men’s individual kata at the Thailand Open Karate Championship in Bangkok on Saturday.

Manday Kaji Shrestha, Thailand Open Karate ChampionshipShrestha, who finished at the top in the first three rounds, missed the gold by a whisker. Shrestha earned 23.2 points in the final to settle for a silver, while gold-medal winner karateka from Indonesia, Hans got 23.36 points. Shrestha became the first Nepali kata player to earn individual section medal in the Thailand Open.

Nepal earned second medal of the day when the women’s kata team of Nirmala Tamang, Kopila Bista and Saru Karki finished joint third with Brunei. China won gold, while Myanmar claimed silver medal.
