A seven-member Nepali badminton team leaves for China on Friday, May 17, 2019, to participate in the Total BWF Sudirman Cup slated for May 19-26 in Nanning

LALITPUR: A seven-member Nepali badminton team on Friday left for China to participate in the Total BWF Sudirman Cup slated for May 19-26 in Nanning.

Four shuttlers, Ratnajit Tamang, Dipesh Dhami, Nangsal Tamang and Amita Giri will take part in the tournament, while coach Uttam Simkhada and team manager Anoj Basnet, Treasurer of Nepal Badminton Association, accompanied the players to China.

Players from 21 nations including three from South Asia — Nepal, India and Sri Lanka — will take part in the tournament. NBA President Ramji Bahadur Shrestha and Vice-president Subash Shrestha are scheduled to attend the elective general assembly of Badminton Asia and AGM of badminton World Federation slated for May 23-25. Vice-president Subash Shrestha accompanied the players to China, while President Shrestha will leave for Nanning on May 21.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista and Nepal Olympic Committee President Jeevan Ram Shrestha bade farewell to the team in two separate functions.
