Lalitpur, April 30
Defending champions Nepal APF Club defeated Tribhuvan Army Club in straight sets in the final of the fifth KNP National Women’s Volleyball Tournament here today.
Played at the Nepali Army Sports Complex, APF dominated the match against the first time finalists and prevailed 25-14, 25-9, 25-15 to win their fifth consecutive title of the tournament. Star of the match, Saraswoti Chaudhary of APF added 27 points from spikes, eight from blocks and one from service Player-of-the-match Nevika Chaudhary of APF scored 23 points from spike, six from block and one from service, while Hira KC contributed nine each from spikes and blocks. Niruta Thagunna was the best among the TAC players sciring 13 points, while Sunita Khadka added 12.
Earlier, Hongwanji New Diamond Club finished third with a 25-22, 25-18, 25-22 victory over Nepal Police Club. Top three sides earned Rs 200,000, Rs 100,000 and Rs 50,000 respectively. Muktinath Bikas Bank, NIC Asia Bank and Marvel Technoplast had sponsored the top three prizes respectively.
Saraswoti Chaudhary of APF was named the best player of the tournament and she earned Rs 15,000.
Niruta Thagunna of TAC won the Special Award from the organised by Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Foundation.
They received Tissot watch from Sulux Centre along with Rs 15,000 each from volleyball enthusiast Samber Bahadur Tamang of Ramechhap.
In individual section, Pratibha Mali of New Diamond won the best spiker, while APF trio Hira KC, Binita Budhathoki and Manisha Tamang were named the best blocker, setter and defender respectively. TAC’s Sofia Pun bagged the best server’s award, while APF’s Gyanendra Bista was named the best coach. They received Rs 7,000 each. Also, the 15 members of the winning team will get a suit each from The Regal Inc.
A total of six teams took part in the tournament organised by Sher Bahadur Khadka Memorial Foundation under the sponsorship of KNP, a subsidiary of Kansai Paints Company Ltd, Japan. Vice-president of National Sports Council Pitambar Timsina, KNP’s Nepal Head Manoj Kumar Mishra, Nepal Volleyball Association President Manoranjan Raman Sharma, SBKMF Patron Gamali Khadka and CEO of Muktinath Bikas Bank Pradyuman Pokharel among others handed over the prizes to the winners.
