Nepalgunj, April 16
Tribhuvan Army Club won the mixed team event gold medal in the 16th National Judo Championship under the eighth National Games in Nepalgunj today.
The TAC team of Janga Bahadur Saru, Pawan Shrestha, Shiva Baram, Sumitra Rai, Nirmala Gharti Magar and Poonam Shrestha finished first ahead of Nepal Police Club on the basis of scores after both the teams won three bouts each.
NPC team included Sanjit Dangol, Shree Ram Makaju, Rabin Shrestha, Manita Shrestha Pradhan, Bhawana Gharti Magar and Nis h a Chaudhary.
Province-5 finished third.
NPC won the overall championship with seven gold, five silver and three bronze medals, while TAC finished second with six golds and four each silver and bronze medals. Province-5 were third with one gold, three silver and four bronze medals. Nepal APF Club also bagged a gold medal in the championship that offered a total of 15 events — 14 individual and the mixed team.
Basketball
Province-3 advanced to the finals of both men and women sections of the National Basketball Tournament in Ghorahi, Dang.
Province-3 registered a 93- 63 victory over Province-4 in the men’s section semi-final match. Binod Shrestha top scored with 20 points for Province-3, who will face Tribhuvan Army Club. Ayush Singh netted 19 points as TAC outplayed Nepal Police Club in another semi-final match. In women’s section semi-finals, Province-3 defeated TAC 39-23, while NPC beat Farwest 55-44.
The finals are slated for Wednesday.
Kabaddi
Tribhuvan Army Club and Province-5 entered the men’s section final National Kabaddi Tournament at the Bansgadhi Kabaddi Academy in Bardiya. TAC defeated Gandaki Province 38-21, while Province-5 beat Nepal APF Club 35-28 in semi-final matches. In women’s section, TAC set final date with Nepal Police Club.
TAC beat Farwest Province 49-17, while NPC registered a 34-24 victory over Province-5.
The finals are slated for Wednesday.
Golf
Province-1 won the team event gold medal of the National Golf Tournament at the Gokarna Golf Club in Kathmandu. The team of Sukra Bahadur Rai, Babindra Rai and Niraj Tamang carded six-under 282 in the 36-hole competition.
Tribhuvan Army Club team of Subash Tamang, Rahul BK and Maj Nischaya Jung Rayamajhi bagged silver medal with the total score of 295, while Gandaki Province team of Maj LP Gurung, Maj Madan Gurung and Capt Mahendra Phagami finished third at 311. In individual section, Tanka Bahadur Karki maintained his lead after the second round. Karki carded one-under 71 to post the 36-hole total of six-under 138 to take two-stroke lead over Sukra Bahadur Rai, who carded second straight two-under 70. Niraj Tamang climbed to third position at two-under 142 after he produced the best card of the round with four-under 68. Subash Tamang was fourth at 146, while Rahul BK and Ajit BK shared the fifth position at five-over 149. A total of 24 players made the cut, which was applied at 24- over 168.
Boxing
Tej Bahadur Deuba of Tribhuvan Army Club won the men’s 52kg weight category gold medal in National Boxing Championship in Nepalgunj. Deuba defeated Bikram Pariyar of Nepal APF Club in the final. Pradeep Ghimire of NRNA and Chandra Bahadur Thapa of Nepal Police Club bagged bronze medals. In 56kg section, Puran Rai of APF won gold after his opponent Surendra Rai of Province-1 withdrew due to injury. Mahendra Chand of Farwest and TAC’s Puran Sunuwar finished joint third.
In women’s section, Sushma Tamang of Province-3 won the 48kg section gold beating TAC boxer Lalita Maharjan.
Diwana Sherma of NPC and Pratibha Shrestha of Province-1 bagged bronze medals.
In the 54kg weight category, TAC’s Minu Gurung defeated Nisha Tamang of NPC in final, while APF’s Sanju Maya Thing and Shiwani Shrestha of Province-3 finished joint third.
Hockey
Defending champion Tribhuvan Army Club and Nepal Police Club advanced to the final of the men’s hockey tournament in Nepalgunj.
In the semi-final matches, TAC registered a 4-2 victory over Province-5 in tie-breaker, while NPC defeated Farwest Province in sudden death. Both the matches ended in 1-1 draws in regulation period. In women’s section, Province-2 recorded a 3-0 victory over Province-1 to make it to the semi-finals.
Madhu Kumari, Amita Rai and Gita Mirching scored one goal each for Province-1, who will face Farwest. TAC will take on Gandaki in another semi-final match.
