Kathmandu, April 6
Wangchen Dhondup accumulated 43 points to win the Ballantine’s Open Golf Tournament here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Played under stableford ¾ handicap format, the one-handicapper Dhondup carded seven birdies and faced a bogey on his way to claiming the overall trophy.
Dhondup, who also bagged the most birdies award, received round trip air tickets to Dubai along with 17-year-old Ballantine’s whisky and gift hampers.
Pavitra Kumar Karki finished second in count back after he was tied on 38 points with Dawa Sonam Sherpa. Karki had scored 22 points on the back nine, while Sherpa had 18.
Dhondup was also the best golfer in gross section with the score of six-under 66 but he left it for his elder brother, Tashi Tshiring under one-player-one-trophy rule of the tournament.
Tshiring earned 39 points with the help of five birdies and two bogeys.
Maj Gen Vijay Moktan won the senior section trophy with the score of 34 points, while Korean golfer Hye Min bagged the women’s category title with the score of 30 points. Vijay Shrestha Einhaus and Suman Joshi claimed the longest drive and closest-to-the-pin awards respectively.
A total of 75 golfers took part in the tournament organised by Pernod Ricard. Regional Head of Pernod Ricard Ravinder Saini, Gokarna Golf Club President Suhrid Ghimire and Captain Joseph Nathan handed over the prizes to the winners.
