Kathmandu, March 29
The National Sports Council today decided to organise the eighth National Games in Province-5 from April 18-24.
The board meeting of the sports governing body reached the decision to hold the biennial sporting extravaganza after series of postponements. NSC Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista confirmed the dates after the meeting which was chaired by Minister for Youth and Sports Jagat Bahadur Sunar, the ex officio president of the board.
The Games was under dark clouds due to delay in infrastructure construction. The executive committee meeting had earlier proposed the inauguration date of April 8, while Bista had announced that the Games would begin on April 10.
Likewise, minister Sunar had said that the Games was not possible in April. “We have decided to organise the opening ceremony on April 18 but some of the sports competitions will begin from April 7,” said Bista. “We will announce the number of sports disciplines and venues on Saturday.”
