Jhapa: Tribhuvan Army Club advanced to the semi-finals of the fourth Mugmug Jhapa Gold Cup here at the Domalal Rajbanshi Stadium today.
TAC defeated fellow departmental rivals Nepal APF Club 3-0 in the second quarter-final match of the tournament. Tanka Basnet, Santosh Tamang and Nawayug Shrestha scored one goal each for the TAC. Basnet put TAC ahead in the 43rd minute when he found the back of the nets in rebound.
Basnet scored from close range after Tek Bahadur Budhathoki’s shot struck against the post and the ball rebounded to play. TAC then added two goals in the space of two minutes in the second half to seal the victory.
Tamang doubled the tally in the 82nd minute when he converted the free kick into the goal. Shrestha put the issue beyond doubt with the team’s third goal a minute later. Shrestha collected the ball released by goalkeeper Bikesh Kuthu and fired home.
Santosh Tamang of TAC earned the man-of-the-match award along with Rs 15,000. On Wednesday, another departmental team Nepal Police Club will take on Ruslan Three Star Club in the quarter-final match.
