BHOJPUR: Bhojpur Municipality-7 is playing against Arun Jarayotar Sports Development Committee (AJSDC) in the first match of the quarter-finals of second Mayor Cup Open Men’s Football Tournament in Bhojpur district today. The second match will also be held between Ranabam Gan and Youth Star Lamidanda later today.
The football tournament is being held at local Tundikhel in the district from March 1. A total of 16 teams have participated in the tournament.
According to President Pravin Suwal of organiser Bhojpur District Football Association, the eight teams playing the quarter-finals are Bhojpur Municipality-7, Arun Jarayotar Sports Development Committee, Ranabam Gan, Youth Star Lamidanda, Rimachung Temke Maiyung, Bhojpur District Police Office, Khotang Bhagawati and Amtek XI.
Other teams that were eliminated after having defeats in the knock out phase are Hatuwagadhi Rural Municipality, Bhojpur Municipality-9 Saptadhara, Bhojpur Municipality 10 (Ka), Ram Prasad Rai Rural Municipality, Bhojpur Municipality (Da), Bhojpur Municipality 10 (Kha), Kulung Yatayat and U16 Bhojpur.
The organiser informed that the winner of the tournament would be awarded the handsome cash prize of Rs 200,000 and the runner-up Rs 100,000 while each third and fourth finisher teams would bag Rs 10,000.
The final match will be held on March 8.
