Kathmandu, February 15
Tribhuvan Army Club advanced to the semi-finals of the Jigme Dorji Wangchuck Memorial Gold Cup Football Tournament with a 6-0 victory over Thimpu City Football Club in Phuntsholing, Bhutan on Friday.
TAC skipper Bharat Khawas scored a brace, while Nawayug Shrestha, Bimal Pandey and Santosh Tamang netted one each for the Nepali team, who were also gifted with an own goal from Mifam Jigme.
In the quarter-final match, TAC skipper Khawas gave the team an early lead when he found the back of the nets in the fifth minute before fellow national team striker Shrestha doubled the tally in the 31st minute.
Khawas scored his second goal of the match five minutes later and Pandey added another to go into the break with a commandable lead of 4-0.
The departmental side then added two more goals in the second half to record comprehensive victory. Santosh Tamang scored TAC’s fifth goal in the 78th minute, while Thimpu defender Jigme netted into his own goal in the 84th minute.
Another Nepali team, Ruslan Three Star Club will take on Ugyen Academy FC in the quarter-final match at the PSA Ground on Saturday.
