Kathmandu Goldens and Rupandehi Challengers kick-off DPL3 with wins

DHANGADHI: Kathmandu Goldens and Rupandehi Challengers have secured victories in the opening fixtures of the third edition of Ruslan Dhangadhi Premier League here at the Fapla International Cricket Ground on Wednesday.

Goldens beat Dhangadhi Stars by four-wickets with a ball to spare and Rupandehi Challengers edged Mahendranagar United by two runs in a low scoring thriller today.

Earlier, Goldens skipper Gyanendra Malla won the toss and opted to field first before restricting Sompal Kami’s Dhangadhi Stars to 132/5 in their allotted 20 overs. In reply, Goldens raced to victory in the penultimate ball of the last over.

Amit Shrestha top-scored for Dhangadhi Stars with a run a ball 50 runs but to no avail.

Ankit Dabas won the man of the match as he took a wicket and hit valuable 29 runs off 23 balls including two fours and two sixes.

In the second fixture, Basanta Regmi’s Rupandehi Challengers won the toss and posted a meagre 111 runs all out in 20 overs. Despite the low score, Challengers pull off an astonishing 2-runs victory over Sarad Vesawkar’s Mahendranagar United.

Siddhant Lohani, Avinash Bohara and Sagar Dhakal shared seven wickets between them to restrict Challengers for a paltry 111 runs.

In reply, Mahendranagar United were folded for 109/8 two runs shy of a thrilling victory today. Man of the match Bikram Sob orchestrated the victory as he took three scalps.
