CMG Club Sankata defeated Saraswoti Youth Club 3-1 in tie-breaker to advance to the quarter-finals of the 10th Ruslan Simara Gold Cup here today.
The match headed to penalty shootout after a 1-1 draw. Saraswoti took the lead in the 38th minute through Mohan Gurung’s goal. Sankata levelled the scores in the 56th minute when Jay Gurung found the back of the nets.
Sankata goalkeeper Raja Babu Thapa was the hero in tie-breaker. He saved three penalties denying Victor Amobi, Ramesh Ghising and Deepak Gupta. The heroics also earned him the man-of-the-match award and Rs 10,000.
Laxman Ruchal, Suraj Gurung and Roman Limbu converted their spot kicks for Sankata, while Mohan Gurung was the lone Saraswoti player to score in tie-breaker. Sankata will now face Ruslan Three Star Club on Tuesday.
