Kathmandu, January 12
Nepal APF Club won the title of the second Hongwanji New Diamond CupOpen National Women’s Volleyball Tournament here today.
APF came from a set down to beat hosts NewDiamond Academy 3-1 in the final. NDA won the first set 25-16 before the departmental side bounced back strongly and took thenext three sets 25-21, 25-23, 25-18 to win the championship.
Along with the trophy, APF received Rs 301,000, while NDA pocketed Rs 201,000. Nepal Police Club finished third with straight sets victory over Tops HS School of Pokhara. Police, who won 25-11, 25-21, 25-14, received Rs 101,000, while Tops got Rs 51,000.
APF’s Saraswati Chaudhary, who collected 28 points in spikes in the final match, was declared the best player of the tournament and she earned Rs 15,000. In individual section, NDA bagged three awards — Pratibha Mali (spiker), Anisha Sunuwar (defender) and Lalita Nath (quicker).
Likewise, APF’s Usha Bista was named the best blocker, while Gyanendra Bista, also from APF, was declared the best coach. The five best individuals received Rs 5,000 each, which was sponsored by Century Commercial Bank.
A total of eight teams took part in the tournament organised by New Diamond Academy under the sponsorship of Hongwanji Bouddha Society Nepal.
Speaker Krishna Bahadur Mahara, President of Nepal Volleyball Association Manoranjan Raman Sharma and President of Madan Bhandari Sports Academy Binod Shrestha among others handed over the prizes to the winners.
