Mechi Netralaya Kakarvitta Football Training Centre came from behind to beat Nepal APF Club 2-1 in the quarter-final match of
the third Nepal Ice Farwest Khaptad Gold Cup hereat the Dhangadhi Stadium today.
Bishwas Shrestha and Bikash Rai scored one goal each for Kakarvitta after APF had taken the lead through Yuvraj Khadka. Kakarvitta will take on the winners of the Lalitpur derby match between Ruslan Three Star Club and Valley Chyasal Youth Club for a place in the final.
APF took an early lead in the ninth minute when Khadka found the back of the nets following a long pass from Shyam Nepali. Bishwas Shrestha, who saw his attempt from inside the box brilliantly saved the diving APF goalkeeper Raju Nagarkoti in the 26th minute, levelled the scores for Kakarvitta in the 41st minute. Shrestha collected a through pass from Bishal Rai and dodged custodian Nagarkoti to score in an open net.
Kakarvitta should have taken the lead in the first half injury time but skipper Khamir failed to score in rebound after APF goalkeeper Nagarkoti blocked the initial attempt from Shrestha. Kakarvitta again missed a chance to go ahead in the 61st minute when Bishal Rai failed to put the ball into the goal despite beating offside trap following a free kick from Bishnu Sunar.
Kakarvitta finally broke the resistance and took the lead three minutes from the end. This time Bikash Rai scored from close from the crowded penalty box after collected the ball in rebound. Bishwas Shrestha of Kakarvitta was named the man of the match and he received Rs 10,000.
Kakarvitta coach Karna Thapa said the players improved their performance in the second half. “We could not perform to our potential in the first half and the boys played with high morale after scoring the equaliser,” Thapa said.
On Sunday, Signature Manang Marshyangdi Club will take on Nepal Police Club in the second quarter-final match. The winners of the biggest knockout tournament held outside the valley will get Rs 2.1 million, while the runners-up will earn one million rupees.
