Sunsari, January 11

Yagyaman Kumal claimed seven wickets as Nepal APF Club thrashed Province1 by 92 runs in the Manmohan Memorial One Day Cricket Tournament here at the Inaruwa grounds today.

Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Nepal APF Club were bowled out for below-par 154 runs in 36 overs but the departmental side were able to pack Province1 for a paltry 62 runs in 17.5 overs, thanks to the brilliant performance from Kumal. Kumal returned with the figures of 7-16 from his 35-ball spell that included a maiden over. Bhuwan Karki took two wickets for APF, while Kamal Singh Airee conceded just three runs in his five-over spell and also claimed a wicket.

Chasing a modest target, Province1 were never in contention after Kumal wrecked havoc in their innings. Firdosh Ansari and Niraj Mukhiya scored 23 runs each for Province1, while Dipesh Kadel (18) and Mukunda Yadav (15) were the other batsmen who contributed in double figures.

Four Province1 batsmen — Siddhant Lohani, Minas Thapa, Pushpa Thapa and Manoj Mandal — even failed to open their accounts. The total posted by Province1 was the lowest so far in the event.

Earlier, APF made a good start with the bat but they failed to recover after losing the first wicket in the fourth over. Province1 maintained the tight bowling and fielding as the batsmen struggled to score freely and the departmental side were bowled out in 36 overs. Aasif Sheikh and Kamal Singh Airee scored 33 runs each for APF, while Puran BK contributed 28 and Prajwal Shahi added 14 runs.

Dipesh Kadel was the pick of the Province1 bowlers taking four and he was ably supported by Siddhant Lohani, who pocketed three wickets. APF’s Kumal was named the man of the match. On Saturday, APF will play against Province4.
