Boxers to go to India

KATHMANDU: A four-member boxing team is on Tuesday leaving for India to participate in the AIBA World Women’s Boxing Championship to be held in New Delhi from November 15-24.

Bimala Shrestha will take part in the 51kg weight category, while Poonam Rawal will fight in 60kg section.

Coach Lal Bahadur Paudel and team manager Laxman Karki, Member of Nepal Boxing Association, will accompany the boxers to New Delhi. Players from more than 60 countries will take part in the championship.

National Sports Council Member Secretary Keshab Kumar Bista, NSC Member Arjun Bahadur KC, NBA President Ram Awale and legendary marathon runner Baikuntha Manandhar bade farewell the team on Monday.

Meanwhile, NBA President Awale also announced rewards to the players — Rs 25,000 for winning a bout, Rs 75,000 for winning two bouts and Rs 200,000 for a medal.
