Kathmandu, October 24
The Non-Resident Nepali Association (NRNA) has handed over the masterplan for the restoration and reconstruction of the historical Sindhuligadhi. Based on the agreement
between NRNA and Kamalamai municipality of Sindhuli, the masterplan has been developed by the NRNA. NRNA President Bhaban Bhatta handed over the plan to Khadga Bahadur Khatri, mayor of the municipality today.
The NRNA has informed that the masterplan has been developed following discussions with a wide range of stakeholders of the municipality, historians, cultural experts, locals, political parties and civil society, among others. Henceforth, the ownership of the masterplan is with the Kamalamai municipality, as per NRNA President Bhatta.
“The historically popular Sindhuligadi is in a chronic stage and the preservation, restoration and reconstruction of the historically important site is must,” Bhatta reiterated. The masterplan has been prepared eyeing the history and originality of Sindhuligadhi.
The NRNA had selected the consultant and borne the cost of the consultant to develop the masterplan as per the agreement between the municipality and NRNA, according to Mayor Khatri. The masterplan has been developed by the joint team of Archetype and Card consulting firms led by architect Sanjay Upreti.
Speaking after the masterplan handing over ceremony, Khatri sought further support from the NRN community for the promotion of Sindhuligadi to develop the historical site as a popular tourism destination. The fort of Sindhuligadhi is popular because of Nepal’s victory against England when the East India Company was expanding their territory in South Asia.
In the programme, Bhatta further said the NRNA feels proud for the opportunity it received to prepare masterplan for restoration and reconstruction of historical site. Locals, representatives from political parties, representatives from consulting firms and NRNA office bearers were present during the masterplan handing over ceremony in the capital.
