Surendra Phuyal won the eighth edition title of the Surya Nepal Gokarna Monthly Medal here at the Gokarna Golf Club today.
Played under stroke play full handicap format, the four-handicapper Phuyal carded three-under 69 to claim the nett section trophy. Phintso Ongdi Lama came second with the score of two-under 70, while Ang Tshiring Sherpa was third on count back after being tied on even-par 72 with Pavitra Kumar Karki and Tashi Dong. Sherpa scored even-par 36 on back nine. Dong and Karki played 38 and 39 respectively.
Tashi Tshering won the gross section trophy with the score of two-under 70, while Arnav Shah bagged the junior category title with the score of five-over 77. In all, 30 golfers took part in the event sponsored by Surya Nepal Pvt Ltd. President of Gokarna Golf Club Suhrid Ghimire handed over the prizes to the winners. After eight editions, Surendra Phuyal is at the top of the nett section leaderboard with 385 points, while Devendra Bajgai is second with 240. Ang Dendi Sherpa is third with 150, followed by Jigmay Dongstetsang (130) and Pavitra Kumar Karki (125).
In gross category, Surendra Phuyal is leading with 550 points, while Tashi Tshiring is second with 440. Wangchen Dhondup is third at 170, followed by Tashi Dong (165) and Prithvi Malla (100). Likewise, Arnav Shah is at the top of junior section table with 385 points, while Ang Phurba Sherpa (380) and Mayank Dahal (375) are second and third respectively.
A total of 10 monthly medal rounds will be played until December. Top 40 players from nett category along with top 10 in gross and five in junior sections will make it to the club championship finals which will be played over two rounds in January and February next year.
