Process to lay 630 metres of underground line completed

The construction works of Nepal’s first underground ‘Trishuli-Matatirtha’ transmission line project is moving ahead rather slowly. Till date, only 48 per cent of the underground works has been completed though the project was initiated in February 2012.
The total length of the 220 kVA double circuit transmission line project is 45 kilometres of which 1,309 metres will be laid underground. As per a press release issued by Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) today, process to lay 630 metres of the transmission line underground has been completed.
NEA further said the underground transmission tunnel can accommodate 24 high-voltage wires parallelly. It also added that construction works have now been accelerated and NEA expects to complete the project within the next seven months.
The transmission line will have a total of 142 towers and foundations for 110 towers have already been prepared, according to Phadindra Raj Joshi, project head of Upper Trishuli 3 ‘A’ hydropower project, under which the transmission line project falls.
Till date, 60 per cent of the overall construction works has been completed. As per the third deadline given to complete the transmission line project, works need to be completed by February 12 next year.
According to NEA, the transmission line will be used to transmit power generated by hydropower projects that are located in the Trishuli river basin and surrounding areas. The approximate cost of the project stands at Rs 2.5 billion and the Upper Trishuli 3 ‘A’ hydropower is responsible for monitoring and management activities.
